The H-2B visa is one of the many petition-based visas in the United States. The H-2B status allows you to work in a seasonal and/or temporary position with a United States employer. As is the case with most, if not all, employment-based visas, applying for and obtaining the H-2B visa can be a lengthy and daunting process, especially since it is often difficult to gauge exactly how long one's specific case might take. Fortunately, the "My Case" tool facilitates this process by allowing you to check updates on your application status.

Instructions
1
Ask your employer to locate and provide you with any U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) letter that may have been received in relation to your H-2B application. Since only employers can file an H-2B petition, USCIS may be sending updates pertaining to the status of your application directly to your employer.
2
Locate your USCIS receipt number from the letter. You can find your case receipt number by looking at the top left-hand corner of the USCIS letter under the "Receipt Number" box.
3
Go to the "My Case Status" page on the USCIS home page at egov.uscis.gov and then enter your H-2B USCIS receipt number in the "Enter your receipt number" box under the "Your Current Case Status" section.
4
Select the "Check Status" button. The "My Case Status" page routes you to another page displaying the most current information pertaining to your H-2B application. You have successfully checked your H-2B status.
Tips & Warnings
You may also gauge the approximate processing time for H-2B applications by scrolling to the bottom of the "My Case Status" page, selecting "I-129" from the dropdown menu under the "Processing Times" section and then clicking "Next."
