The Employment Authorization Document (EAD) is the document issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to prove that the document holder is authorized to work in the United States. It is also called work permit. A U.S. citizen or permanent resident bearing a Green Card does not require an EAD. Only non-immigrant residents on certain visa categories, such as J2 and L2, are required to apply for EAD. Your employer will require EAD card as a proof of your eligibility to work in the country. The application process for an EAD is simple but requires certain documents to be filed.
